1st, Art Planning/Pondering

went out today and rooted around a few different used book stores with the goal of finding a nice "workbook". i think i found a good one... a copy of Cyrano de Bergerac published in 1954. it has always been my favorite play, and is pretty inspiring/relevant to life right now. i feel like "a real flesh-and-blood Cyrano" from time to time.

i don't think my first attempt to work in it went very well... i ended up cutting out the entire foreword because i was so mostly unhappy with it. i'm pretty sure i'm not much of an acrylic/gouache painter. i've never been keen on perspective, dimension, light. i've never been keen on drawing I i guess. but one of my drawings collaged onto a field of gouache color looked pretty good. and the paper was still present, still off-white, but the gouache color field maybe addressed what jesse was talking about with the white paper? we'll see.

i need to get back onto pattern kicks... i think spending such a long stressful semester burned me on straight patterning but its time to prop back in.

tomorrow i plan on just going through and making pages of color fields, bringing out words, and doing some patterns. i'm thinking if i start to separate my process into steps it might help me loosen up on the final result. maybe add some polyhedral shapers.

just a sidebar, writing this reminded me of when i was blowing hard smoke on xanga, back in the day. that shit was a ring of folks, with comments and all that. writing feels okay. i might become obsessed with blogging. public journals scoff scoff.

listening to a LOT of mos def, cool kids, m83, and the new kanye lately. probably unhealthy.
